How did you come to do what you do? What’s your personal background story?

"I believe in a fairer society, in the possibility of creating one"

I qualified as a Translator/Interpreter in 2000. I did translation work and English teaching for a few years and, very quickly, I realised that the part of my job I enjoyed the most was the contact with people and seeing changes in people through my impact.

In 2002 I took part in a rural development project in Vedanthangal, Tamil Nadu, and since then I've taken several trips to volunteer in that part of the world, with the certainty that one day I would create something (for a long time I didn't know what this 'something' was...) that would contribute further towards its development.

Finally, in 2017 I set up an NGO called Indian Futures that works towards improving the quality of education and empowering women in the rural communities I've known for nearly 20 years now..

Why are you creating your project?

Because I believe in a fairer society, in the possibility of creating one.

What's your dream, your vision?

"I want for all our communities to have a fairer chance in life, opportunities to grow and the freedom to make their own choices."

My dream is to continue to be part of this exciting journey towards the development of an area of the world that's so dear to me and where change is so much needed.

I want for all our communities to have a fairer chance in life, opportunities to grow and the freedom to make their own choices.

What does being a socially-conscious change maker mean to you?

To me, there's no other way of being. It's not something I've learnt or become, it's something I believe I've always been. Being socially-conscious is having respect for other human beings, being curious about others, what they do, how they live, what their issues are, and making life choices that take those others into consideration.

"To me, a wish is only the first step in the very long and beautiful journey of a socially-conscious change maker"

Being a change maker is putting the above into practice, coming into close contact with the negative effects of our modern societies, taking full responsibility for them and doing something with this responsibility, not just sitting with it, wishing things were different. To me, a wish is only the first step in the very long and beautiful journey of a socially-conscious change maker.

How do you create accountability in your own life when you're working toward achieving a goal?

I try to stay as close as possible to the 'me' who wants to achieve that goal and the reasons why I have that goal. I try to take a step back to reflect, to go into that inner self, I speak with people I trust about my goal, I listen to them, I reflect again... Sometimes I get lost but most of the time I like to think I have direction and when I lose it, I have the means to find it again...

What is your biggest challenge in your project?

There have been so many along the way... The biggest challenge is to keep the belief that whatever the challenge I will find a way to overcome it, and carry on, hopefully wiser, hopefully stronger...

What are you big goals?

To continue to run exciting events for Indian Futures, to partner up with like-minded people and organisations, to expand our projects in India so we can benefit more communities, scale up our impact, and of course, to see where the PiMOV journey takes us all!

What is important for you in PiMOV and why?

Sharing, being genuine, trusting each other, evolving together... Because without all these things there's no community...

The world needs you to get together with like-minded leaders to share your being, your vision, and your project to potentiate Positive iMPACT.
