About Anna Amado
We are super excited to share with you about Anna, a member of our movement and a precious Socially-Conscious Change Maker, who has founded the charity Indian Futures with her passion and values. Anna has accompanied us from India throughout all 2020's lockdown and she rapidly became part of our family. For us having her co-creating with us, it's an amazing fortune.
“About me” by Anna
“In my early career, I was a science fiction translator and an English teacher. In 2003, after a year volunteering in different parts of India, I returned to Barcelona to take a Social Education degree. During that time I also worked at FACEPA, a charity that specialises in adult literacy. I moved to Brighton (UK) in 2006 where I developed my skills in the homeless sector, working for Brighton YMCA as a Project Worker. I returned to India in 2008 when I became Laia Foundation's Educational Coordinator (Vedanthangal, Tamil Nadu). After a year in the role I went back to the UK to work again for Brighton YMCA as a Project Manager and most recently, supervising and supporting managers in their roles.
In order to continue the work I started with the Laia Foundation, in 2017 I created a UK-based NGO called Indian Futures with the aim to fund and help deliver quality education and women's empowerment projects in rural South India.
Indian Futures is the result of a never-ending hope and a firm belief in the work that charities do in India. I am thrilled to be part of this exciting adventure to support such a special and magical place in the world!”
About Indian Futures
We provide quality education and funding to communities in rural South India in order to create a wider range of opportunities and help reduce the gender imbalance.
There is a general lack of quality education in rural India. Digitalisation of education solves many problems in schools, such as inadequate student-teacher ratio and insufficient teaching resources. In order to meet this challenge, Indian Futures has created 3 IT centres for students and the community.
The high rates of female student drop-outs from higher education present a more specific challenge, as parents continue to prioritise their sons’ studies over their daughters’. Indian Futures supports girls’ access to further education by providing a Student Sponsorship Programme for female students.
Our goal is to continue to expand and improve our IT Community Centres and Sponsorship Programme. Our vision, a world where all human beings have access to quality education.
